Have you ever thought about using something for something it’s not and then it turns out to serve a better or maybe a not a better purpose?

This video highlights some things I’ve seen and heard before but also some new things that caught me by surprise. Who new a tab on a soda can had multiple uses?

I decided to try it for myself. I cook spaghetti quite often and always end up with a ton of extra pasta. It’s almost impossible to measure how much you need because noodles expand so much. One standard box of spaghetti noodles can make enough for 6 people when usually I only need enough for 2. Check out my video to see how I found another use for an everyday cooking utensil to measure pasta noodles. The only other way that I would measure noodle proportions is by weight. Without a scale this is the perfect technique (and cheaper way!) instead of buying a scale. All you need is a pasta spoon, water, a pot, and noodles and your ready to cook!

As you can see all I did was fill up the hole in the pasta spoon to measure out one serving of pasta. I then placed the pasta in the boiling water and cooked one serving of pasta with my measuring cup/ spoon!

  1. Love that you tried one of the "technologies" from the video. I really need to go back and look at all of those things. For instance, the straw with the tab on a can of Coke or other soft drink. It never occurred to me to use it that way. LOL! Just like tech. in the classroom, sometimes the original purpose might change. That is a double-edged sword because things can be misused and abused.
