Cooperative educational Gaming experience I decided to play the game called "Drag Race Division" on www.coolmath4kids.com   with my boyfriend as a 2 player game but there was an option for up to 4 players so the other 2 players were computers. I'm very familiar with this website because I used it all the time as a child inside and outside of school. I found this specific game because I'm always looking for ways to work on multiplication and this game does exactly that. It basically creates a race between you and a computer or you and up to 3 other friends as a multiplayer game. You can create a "private game" with a password so that the friends you select can enter into the game on their own computer with the password. It displays multiplication problems and when you answer one correct you move forward. So whoever gets the most correct, the fastest is going to beat you to the finish line. It can be a great motivator for students who need more ...

Real or Fake?

Image
Things are authenticated and make fake all the time with the access we have to tech tools and technology. There are more scams and fake pictures out there than we can recognize. Taking a look at these images, quotes, and etc. are the real or fake? How can you tell? Here were my answers! 1.
My answer: Real. Nothing stands out to contradict that the image is fake. You can even tell the dun is setting behind where the image is taken. There is a reflection of the sun on one of the buildings which would be hard to make not real.
Correct answer: Fake. There are several small details by zooming in you could find. There was even a cursor from the computer mouse left on the screen. 2.
My answer: Real. Once again I couldn't find any mistakes to these reviews. I thought both of them were real, liable possibilities to a review of a hotel. They both made sense and complimented the hotel.
Review 1:  Stayed here for two nights with my ...

Maker revolution

Image
What is a maker? The idea of the maker revolution is that our future will create more makers. What do I mean by makers? Dale Dougherty does a great job of explaining that every human is considered to be a maker.  The idea of a "maker" comes from the word creativity. In order to be creative you have to simply create. Which is what a maker does. Even though you might have not created the light bulb or a running car you have at some point in your life created something of your own. As technology is taking off faster than we can breathe the face behind those creations are makers. Whether you were the first to create a cell phone or used a tool to create something else it's humans who are expanding our world's creations. In order for creativity to be at play teachers play a key role in providing that to the future of our country. Students thrive on experimenting, problem solving, by themselves and with peers which is how makers are created. The way we teach is be...

Sugata Mitra starts by touching on a simple fact. Education started out by creating students to be suitable for certain jobs like factory jobs. All students needed to be able to perform a certain way and know certain things for that demanding job. He inferences "creating robots for robotic jobs" which is in a way true. The problem is even though time has changed, society has changed,  and the types of jobs have changed, the education to get students suitable for the current reality has not changed. We are simply preparing students for jobs that don't exist any more. What we are suppose to be doing is preparing them for the future. So instead of teaching to the past, preparing for robot jobs which we actually have robots for, we have to teach to the future. It's almost contradicting because in a way we still are suppose to be preparing our students for don't even exist yet. But not with robotic like environments, but with creative, expressive, differentiating, ...

Final Course reflection

Image
This class has definitely taught me how and what it's like to use technology inside of the classroom. With technology evolving it's up to us to keep up with society, and use technology to our advantage within our classroom. With that being said it's not as easy as you think. In the beginning of this class I was comfortable with technology but I definitely wouldn't call myself tech savvy. Technology can be confusing and frustrating when your not familiar with it which can work against you instead of for you. Most of the programs and tools I had experience with was from my own student experience in college. So to be on the other side of things really made me feel some of the stress that I'm sure my professors feel at times. There are so many tools out there as a teacher, your PLN (Personal Learning Network) could become your best friend. It's a great way to stay up to date, informed, and have resources to anything you can imagine. While exploring specific tool...

Blended Learning

Image
Have you ever heard of blended learning? Blended learning is is a blend between learning in the classroom face-to-face and learning using technology, this could be completely online or in the classroom using technology as a tool. It's a new way to adapt students to the technology our society is inheriting, but most importantly it's giving the students more control of their personal learning at an independent pace and schedule. The diagram above shows you exactly what each style of learning must entail for blended learning to be effective. Although there are several things that must happen correctly by students, and teachers for blended learning to be effective the work is worth it. Blended learning overall provides a base for teachers to reach the individualized needs of every student within their classroom which is why I plan to use it in my classroom. So with that being said you might ask well how do I get to blended learning? An outline of Blended Learning D...
